This activity goes back in the era of experimentation with the first inter-networking technologies around 1986. Based on Unix (system V, telmat sm90, bull sps7) , ?.25 (telefile), Baseband 9600 Alcatel modems and a modem at 300bps borrowed from the university of Brandford we managed to setup and started the operation of network services. Technologies such as UNIX, X.25, X.400, RFC987gateways, IPoverX.25, TCP/IP, ATM over Satelite, IP-Over-Satellite, CSCW and recently security technologies. These were tried, dissected and became subject of knowledge transfer to the wider technological community. We have supplied a large number of professionals to several organizations of the public and private sector such as network administrators, network designers, consultants and researchers.
During these fifteen years of experience with INTERNETWORKING technologies we have developed several solutions for the sector of Telecommunications (OTE-NET), of Shipping (SUPERFAST FERRIES), the Informatics sector (Goverment,ICAP) and the Research sector (European programs).
The educational and learning skills activity (on-the-job-training) has been an important aspect of this lab. A pioneering attitude in the choice of the subjects to explore together with the guidance from international collaboration has lead us to innovative degree projects. These became examples for academic and research institutions. Our lab's collaborators and students are holding prime positions in the field of internet technologies at distinguished organisations.
